Tributes have been paid to a popular Newry school teacher who has passed away in London.
Catherine Sherry, a mother-of-three young children, had been a teacher at St Joseph’s Convent Primary School.
She passed away peacefully at King’s College Hospital in London today (Monday).
The loss has caused heartbreak for her husband Fergal, sons Manus, Tomás, and Donal, parents Phil and Roisin O’Hanlon, brother Martin, father-and-mother-in-law, Danny and Celia, and the entire family circle.
Tributes have been paid on social media to a teacher – remembered by a friend as “such a beautiful girl inside and out” – who was valued and loved by her pupils and her peers.
One person said: “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of lovely Catherine. One of the kindest genuine people. Her warmth will never be forgotten. Fly high Catherine xx.”
Another described her as “my beautiful friend”, stating: “I will miss you so much. St Joseph’s will never be the same without you.”
Yet one more said: “Such sad news. Catherine Sherry is an angel in heaven now, shining brightly! Thinking of the entire family, especially her boys.”
The family, from the Ballymoyer area of Co Armagh, have requested that the home is strictly private at this time.
Funeral arrangements, which have yet to be finalised, will be entrusted to Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors.
A family death notice says that Catherine’s passing is “deeply regretted by her sorrowing husband, sons, parents, brother, mother in law, father in law, sisters in law, brothers in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, family circle, friends and colleagues at St. Joseph’s Convent P.S., Newry”.
