A1 crash barrier prevents vehicle from plummeting 30 feet on to road below

The PSNI in Newry and Mourne has released a photograph showing the aftermath of an accident on the A1 Dublin Road this afternoon.

A badly damaged crash bar, which is now being repaired.

The accident happened near the southbound turnoff for Armagh.

The PSNI reported it as a “major incident” and emergency services – paramedics and fire personnel – attended the scene.

Police have now confirmed that, fortunately, no-one was seriously injured.

But the picture shows that this crash barrier took the full force of the collision and prevented a vehicle plummeting 30 feet on to the road below.

Police have again urged motorists to take care on the road, saying: “Slow Down, Respect everyone’s journey and pay attention when driving!”
