Local BMX enthusiasts are to have their prayers answered with the construction of a new BMX track in Newry.
A planning application for the development had been lodged by the former Newry and Mourne District Council and it will be recommended for approval when it comes before the new Newry Mourne and Down Council next month.
The agent for the development is the Camlough-based Design3.
The BMX track will be constructed on open space along the Camlough Road in Newry, beside Derrybeg Community Centre.
Parking will also be provided, as well as landscaping.
BMX bikes remain extremely popular but local enthusiasts have long campaigned of a lack of local facilities for them to enjoy the sporting pastime.
This new development will answer that need and will be welcomed.
