Much stronger demand for lambs

A SMALLER entry of lambs sold in a much stronger demand at Markethill on Wednesday, July 31.

Heavy lambs (24kgs) averaged £88.50 each and peaked at £92 each. Top rate for heavy lambs at 375p per kilo for 24 kilos at £90 each. Main demand sold from 350p to 370p per kilo.

Middleweights sold to 393p per kilo for 21 kilos at £82.50 each. All good quality pens sold from 370p to 389p per kilo for 23 kilos at £89.50 each. The sale average for middleweight lambs was 379p per kilo.

Stores sold to 397p per kilo for 18 kilos at £71.50. Cull ewes sold from £55 to £70 each with 2nd quality ewes from £35 to £50 each.

The 1st sale of Breeding Ewes returned a firm trade for quality pens to a top of £152. Others sold at £140, £137 and £118 each.
