A proposal by Translink to provide an additional pick up service to pupils attending Markethill High School has been welcomed.
The move follows on from direct representations received by Ulster Unionist MLA Danny Kennedy from Markethill High School, requesting the provision of this service to pupils who participate in extra-curricular activities at the school.
The Newry and Armagh representative said: “I am extremely pleased that Translink has responded positively to representations I made on behalf of Markethill High School requesting that the Armagh to Newry bus service, which passes through Markethill around 4.30pm each evening, be changed to facilitate the collection of pupils directly outside the school.
“The current Translink service required pupils who participate in extra-curricular activities at Markethill High School to walk to the centre of Markethill each day to avail of this bus service and this resulted in pupils regularly having to cut short their participation in such activities to ensure they boarded the bus home on time.
“I welcome the fact that Translink has looked upon my request to review this service favourably and Markethill High School pupils participating in extra-curricular activities will now be picked up directly outside the school from the week commencing 19th September.”
