A 39-year-old man charged with the murder of a man in Mountnorris has had his case adjourned for a further four weeks to allow prosecutors more time to examine what has been described as an “enormous” file.
Aaron McAnulty, of Cusher Green, Mountnorris, is accused of murdering Christopher ‘Chrissy’ Burn between September 3 and 4, 2025.
The case was listed before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Newry, on Tuesday.
Mr Burns, originally from Warrenpoint and understood to have been in his 40s, was found dead with serious injuries to his head and face at a property in Cusher Green, Mountnorris, on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He had been living at the address for a number of years.
Providing an update in court, a prosecuting lawyer said the senior public prosecutor (SPP) in the Serious Crime Unit was continuing to work “diligently” on the file.
“I can say that it’s an enormous file, much of which is hard copy papers,” she told the court. “There are over 100 statements and almost 250 exhibits, and in the circumstances, the application is for further four weeks’ place for progress towards decision and possibly a timetable.”
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer granted the application and adjourned the case for four weeks, until August 18.
McAnulty, who did not appear in person, remains on remand in custody.
