Police and government officials in joint operation to tackle rural crime

Police in Armagh have stepped up patrols in a bid to reduce rural crime.

Officiers, together with officials from the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, have spent the past two days in Markethill, Middletown and Keady.

The operation was in response to a reported increase in cattle thefts.

As a result, three people are being charged and will appear in court for the alleged illegal movement of cattle.

And a trailer used to transport livestock – described as unsafe – has been seized.

Police have pledged to continue to tackle the issue.
