Minister apologises for delay in delivering loading bay markings on Markethill’s Main Street

'My officials had issued a work instruction for its completion but unfortunately due to other high priority commitments, the contractor was unable to undertake this work'

Main Street Markethill

Long-awaited loading bay road markings at Main Street in Markethill are to be completed in the coming weeks.

There had previously been complaints by locals and businesses due to confusion over parking in the town centre.

The loading bays should have been mapped out by now but the work has been held up due to other commitments.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has apologised for the delay.

She did so – while providing an update on the works – in a written response to a question by Newry and Armagh DUP MLA William Irwin, who had sought a progress report and asked for the reason for the delay.

Said Minister Kimmins: “I apologise for the delay to the installation of the loading bay markings.

“My officials had issued a work instruction for its completion but unfortunately due to other high priority commitments, the contractor was unable to undertake this work.

“A new road marking contract has recently been awarded and a revised works order has been issued under this contract.”

And with that explanation given, she added: “It is hoped that the new road markings will be completed in the next few weeks.”
