Markethill up for another ‘slice’ of fast food industry with pizza outlet plans

Development proposed at former hairdressing salon

A Co Armagh town could be about to enjoy another slice of the ‘fast food’ industry!

There are now plans being brought forward to open a pizza take-away in Markethill.

The development has been proposed at 75 Main Street in the town.

The Lurgan-based applicant has applied for permission for a change of use to allow this enterprise to proceed.

The property in question is the former ‘Hair Connextions’, a unisex hairdressing salon which closed at that address last year. The business relocated to 9 Fairgreen Road, Markethill.

The new pizza outlet, if approved, would employ three people.

The applicant has also addressed some potential areas of concern in advance, including litter.

Details have been presented to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council planning officials for consideration.

They indicate that the intention is that opening hours would be between noon and 11pm.

And the submission also confirms: “To prevent the build up of litter the applicant will have a management procedure in place that will ensure that the external area will be checked on an hourly basis and cleaned as necessary.”

In addition, there would also be four litter bins located within the development site.

The pizza take-away is the latest in a number of food-related proposals for the thriving town.

In July, Armagh I revealed plans were in the pipeline and being considered for a new hot food take-away and ice-cream parlour at the former ‘Corner Shop’ grocery store opposite the Health Centre on Newry Street.

It included a sit-in and take-away area, with toilet provision to the rear. A decision on those plans is expected before the end of this year.

The pizza business is for take-away only with no on site dining proposed.

The application is due to be publicly advertised this week when people will be able to make their views known.

A decision would be expected in the coming months.
