Man beaten and robbed in homophobic attack

POLICE are hunting a gang of four who subjected a man to homophobic abuse before assaulting and robbing  him on a train.

The PSNI say they are treating the attack on the 51-year-old – which happened on the Dublin to Belfast train – as a hate crime.

Four men assaulted the victim and shouted homophobic abuse while they were travelling between Newry and Portadown on Saturday night.

The man was attacked and had his laptop smashed. He received treatment in hospital for a broken nose and minor head injuries.

The attackers also took his iPod Nano and two sets of earphones.

Police said the attackers got off the train at Portadown and have appealed to anyone with any information to come forward.
