A Dromore man, who pleaded guilty to assault by striking a woman on the arm with a baseball bat, has received a prison term.
Glenn Philip Magee, of Gallows Street, was sentenced at Craigavon Crown Court today, Tuesday, September 10, to four-and-a-half years’ imprisonment – two years in custody and the remainder on licence.
The 33-year-old pleaded to attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The charges relate to an assault on a woman in her Riverbank home in the early hours of Sunday, February 19, 2023.
The intruder, armed with a baseball bat, entered her home through a patio door and made his way to her bedroom. He then swung the bat in her direction and hit her on the left arm before running out of the house. This was reported to police some two days later and Magee was arrested that same day.
Another assault occurred outside a nursing home in Dunmurry on February 18, 2023. Magee was charged after he reportedly shouted abuse at another male before hitting him a number of times to the face leaving injury.
Detective Inspector Bell said: “Our enquiries into both reports of assault led to the identification of Magee. Today, we see that justice has been done.
“We will work tirelessly to bring offenders before the courts so that that victims receive the justice they deserve.”
