Woman to stand trial charged with making false rape allegation

Defendant remanded on bail of £500

A Co Armagh woman accused of perverting the course of justice is to stand trial in the New Year.

Before Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday was Gail Chambers, of Russell Drive in Lurgan.

The defendant is alleged to have falsely reported to police, on October 24, 2015, that a man had raped her.

The 50-year-old told the court sitting in Armagh she had no objections to the proceedings.

She spoke only to confirm her identity.

Chambers was remanded on bail of £500 to be arraigned at Newry Crown Court, when its sits on January 16.
