Craigavon Courthouse

A Lurgan woman has been driving illegally in Northern Ireland for over a decade, a court has heard.

Linda Greene, of Ashwood, pleaded guilty to driving without insurance or licence at Craigavon Magistrates‘ on Friday.

It was heard the 46-year-old, who is originally from South Africa, only held a licence from her native country, despite living in Northern Ireland for 12-and-a-half years.

The defendant was stopped by police driving a Nissan Qashqai, which was flagged as being uninsured, on Beech Court, Lurgan, on June 12.

Court heard that Greene told police that the vehicle belonged to her husband.

Greene, who represented herself in court, said: “I wasn’t aware that I was driving without insurance.”

The defendant was banned from driving for six months and ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within eight weeks.
