Up to 200 jobs to be axed in Lurgan as Americold confirm ‘downsizing’ plans

Americold Lurgan

Up to 200 jobs are set to be lost at the Americold depot in Lurgan, Armagh I can reveal.

The company has told Armagh I that jobs will be lost a result of “downsizing in fleet and personnel”.

A lorry driver for the firm told this publication that drivers, office and garage staff were sent an email on Friday and told to meet in the Lurgan office for 2pm.

For those not working onsite, or remotely, were informed of the decision via a Teams meeting.

Staff will be made redundant over the next three months in what the driver described as “a major shock to me, the area and economy”.

A spokesperson for the company told Armagh I: “Due to changes in customer demand, Americold has determined that we must restructure and right size our transportation business in Lurgan to align with anticipated transport flows going forward.

“We are proposing a downsizing in fleet and personnel and will be entering a period of consultation with all affected staff.  It is expected that the consultation period will last no longer than 90 days.

“We will provide more information as we work through this transition period.”
