Two people arrested after man suffers serious facial injuries in Lurgan cemetery attack

Two people have been arrested after a 21-year-old man suffered serious facial injuries in an alleged attack at a cemetery in Lurgan.

Footage of part of the incident, which occurred on Monday, has been shared on social media.

Officers say they responded to a report of an assault at approximately 7.10pm within the grounds of St Colman’s cemetery in the Tarry Lane area of the town.

A man aged in his 20s was in a car when he was approached by an unknown man who attacked him with a blunt object to his face. He was also carrying a knife or other type of blade.

Inspector Kerr said: “The victim sustained serious facial injuries as a result of the assault. When he raised the alarm for help, the suspect made off on foot after also verbally threatening the victim.

“A 19-year-old woman and 28-year-old man were subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences in connection with the investigation.

“They were later released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

“Anyone with information about what happened or who witnessed the assault is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1629 14/10/24.”
