Pensioner

A pensioner was viciously assaulted by two men before his house was ransacked.

The 87-year-old, who was at home was his wife in Trasna Way, Lurgan, when the intruders struck.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “At around 8pm, two ‘men’ forced entry to a home where an 87-year-old man was at home with his wife.

“He was assaulted by one of the intruders, who held the victims in a room while the house was rummaged through.

“If you saw ANYTHING out of place at the time, please contact us immediately. Someone, somewhere will know something. This is a busy residential area. Those who carried out this attack can not be allowed to operate freely. Did you see anyone running off, or getting into a car? Did you see what direction they went in?

“Were you on Transa Way around that time or any streets nearby and have dash cam footage? If so, please save it and review it. Someone will have something that could be crucial to the investigation.

“The incident number is 1226 of 29/10/18.”

Officers also noted that there were chalk marks found on a wall.

“Whilst we know there are numerous chalk marks reported across the district and that many turn out to be totally innocent, it is worth bearing in mind,” added the spokesperson.

“If you have elderly friends, neighbours or relatives, check their walls and fences. Anything out of place, take a photo of, remove if you can, and report it to us. While you’re there, ensure they are locking doors, windows, and outbuildings like sheds.

“Most importantly, again the message of reporting suspicious activity is key! In another burglary yesterday we found out after the fact that suspicious people had been seen in the area before hand…and not reported. Please, if you see anything out of place, pick up the phone.”
