Sudden death in Lurgan yesterday ‘not related’ to earlier altercation, police say

A PSNI spokesperson has confirmed that the unrelated sudden death 'is not being treated as suspicious at this time'

A sudden death in Lurgan yesterday evening (Wednesday) is not connected to an altercation that occurred in the same area, police have said.

Local response officers were attending the report of an altercation in the Edward Street area just before 7pm on April 12 when they were alerted by members of the public to a sudden death nearby.

A PSNI spokesperson has confirmed that the sudden death, which is not related to the earlier report, “is not being treated as suspicious at this time”.

A 22-year-old man, who was arrested by police on suspicion of disorderly behaviour following the altercation, is to be reported to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).

He was later taken to hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

A 41-year-old man was also cautioned at the scene for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The spokesperson added that enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
