Self-styled ‘hunter of paedophiles’ remanded back into custody

Craigavon-Courthouse

A self-styled “hunter of paedophiles” appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for an update on his ongoing case.

Caolan Murray, 24, of Mark Court, Lurgan, appeared in court via video link from Maghaberry.

He had previously been on bail but was remanded in custody on Tuesday for reasons not outlined in court.

The case had been expecting a full file to be present but this was not the available on Friday.

District Judge Kelly has asked for a full timetable to be produced before the court next week – June 22.

Previously, court heard that the defendant had attempted a “sting” operation on the injured party on January 18, which he live-streamed to Facebook.

It was suggested that Murray had targeted the man as he was someone that his family already had a dispute with.

Murray then allegedly attacked the same man on February 22, with the court hearing how he approached his home armed “with a crossbow” – this too was streamed live on Facebook.

The victim in the case “was punched in the face receiving injuries”.

It was previously outlined in court that the crime was possibly homophobic as the victim was openly gay.
