A funeral will be held on Saturday for “gentle giant” Robert Paczkowski who died after sustaining injuries during an altercation in Lurgan.
Fifty-one-year-old Robert – who was originally from Poznan, Poland – moved to Northern Ireland and had been living in the Lurgan area at the time of the incident.
Following an altercation with door staff on October 18, as he allegedly attempted to re-enter a bar in the William Street area, Robert fell and struck his head on the pavement.
He received treatment from both staff and paramedics at the scene and was immediately rushed to hospital.
Police confirmed that Robert had subsequently passed away from his injuries in the Royal Victoria Hospital on Thursday (October 23).
Two men have been interviewed by police as part of what is now a manslaughter investigation and a file of evidence will be prepared for the Public Prosecution Service in due course.
A death notice described Robert as the cherished father of Amber, treasured stepfather of Victoria, beloved son of Wiesław, dear brother of Kasia and loving godfather of David.
His funeral service is due to take place tomorrow (Saturday) at 11am in Milne’s Funeral Home followed by burial in Lurgan Cemetery.
The community have responded to the tragic news with an outpouring of grief for a man who was well known and respected, with many calling him a “true gentleman”.
A former colleague, shared their disbelief upon learning of his death: “Unreal, I worked along with this man in Thompson Aero Seating, he was a true gentleman, he will be sadly missed.”
Another added: “Gutted worked with Robert a gentleman, thinking of his wee daughter and all his family.”
