Residents evacuated as police deal with suspect device in Lurgan

Residents have been evacuated from their homes as police deal with an ongoing security alert in Lurgan, county Armagh.

PSNI are currently at the scene of a suspect device in the Windsor Avenue area of the town.

The public are being advised to avoid the area.

The area has been cordoned off and Army Technical Officers have been notified.

The ‘device’ was discovered by electricity workers earlier this morning.

“Those responsible for this disruption do not represent any significant part of our community,” said MLA for the area Catherine Seeley.

“A number of families have been inconvenienced by having their homes evacuated.

“I would appeal to those responsible to cease these needless activities at once. There is no place for this in Lurgan.

“The residents here should not have to endure this type of incident.”
