Police targeted with petrol bombs as second security alert underway in Lurgan

A second security alert is underway in Lurgan with police also being targeted with petrol bombs.

The earlier alert had been “an elaborate hoax” according to the PSNI.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon District Commander, Superintendent Wendy Middleton said: “Police are dealing with disorder in the Levin Road area of Kilwilke in Lurgan where a number of petrol bombs have been thrown at officers.

“We would ask that drivers avoid the area at this time.”

Upper Bann DUP MP Carla Lockhart says a second security alert is now underway at the old Glendinnings factory and Lord Lurgan Park being closed.

“This is causing a lot of disruption in the area,” she said.

“I firmly believe this is an outworking of the weekend’s arrests.

“This is an attempt to cause havoc and disrupt the lives of those in the north Lurgan area whilst luring the security forces into a life threatening position.”
