‘Our hearts are broken’ as tributes pour in following death of young Lurgan man

Conor McConaghy from Lurgan

The brother of a young Lurgan man who died on Thursday says he will always remember him as the delightful young man he was.

Others described Conor McConaghy, from the Downshire Avenue area of the town, as a “warm, caring person”.

A funeral notice for Conor, who was 32 years old, said he died peacefully at Craigavon Area Hospital on 10 April, surrounded by his loving family.

He is described as the dearly beloved son of Marian and the late Michael, and much-loved brother of Aisling, Orla, Ciara, Conal, Ronan, and the late Gary, R.I.P.

He is also the beloved brother-in-law of Stephen, James, Nora, and Megan, and loving uncle to Laila, Beth, Aoibhe, Joseph, Charlie, Emily, Jude, Donnachadh, Cliodhan, and Naoise.

Hundreds of tributes have already poured in for a young man whose life was sadly cut short.

“I will always remember Conor for his laughter,” wrote one woman. “He loved cracking jokes and was such a warm, caring person. So sad to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to his mother and brothers and sisters. God bless. RIP Conor. One of the best.”

Another wrote: “Our hearts are broken. RIP our Trev. We will miss you so much… The memories and laughs we had together will stay with us forever. We will love and miss you always.”

His older brother Conal wrote: “Another young life gone too soon. RIP Trev. I’ll always remember you as that delightful young man before addiction took its evil hold. Rest easy, wee bro. Love and miss you always.”

One friend spoke of the cruelty of life:

“I just can’t put into words the heartbreak that my wee family is feeling these past few weeks. We thought you would pull through, but unfortunately, this wasn’t the outcome everyone wanted. You have made your mark on a lot of hearts, Conor. I will never forget you, my friend. You’re now free to be that funny joker that you always were. Watch over your mum and your family as they come to terms with losing such a special son.”

Conor’s remains will repose at his home on Saturday from 6pm, with his funeral on Monday at 9.15am from his late residence to St Paul’s Church for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in St Colman’s Cemetery.

Conor’s Requiem Mass can be viewed via St Paul’s Church webcam.

House private.

Very deeply regretted by his loving mother, sisters, brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and entire family circle.
