New classroom accommodation at St Patrick’s Primary School in Aghagallon should be in place early next year, it has been confirmed.
Education Minister Michelle McIlveen has confirmed foundation and drainage works at the school, at Aghalee Road, was due for completion this month.
The Minister was providing a progress report to the Upper Bann SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly.
She said: “The modular units are currently scheduled to be delivered to the site week commencing 10 January 2022, subject to access arrangements, with hand over to the school anticipated for mid-February 2022.”
Last October, there were calls to have mobile classrooms, more than 30 years old and falling into a bad state of disrepair replaced.
Speaking at the time, Alliance Councillor Peter Lavery, said he had written to the Minister for Education and the Education Authority asking them to “act urgently on capital investment for this school so that these mobile classrooms can be repaired or replaced”.
“They are in a very poor condition after a number of decades of wear and tear. The door of the mobile toilet in particular is in urgent need of replacement,” he added.
