Natalie McNally: Brother’s emotional tribute as sister ‘receives justice’ as killer convicted

The brother of murdered Lurgan woman paid tribute to his sister outside court today (Monday) and said he hoped she could now “rest easy.”

The grieving family spoke to the media after Stephen McCullagh was convicted of her murder.

Declan McNally said: “As Natalie receives justice today, our hearts go out to all the victims of violence against women and girls.

“Our hope is that all the victims and families get their day in court and the justice they deserve.

“Violence against women and girls is the shame of our society and we must do everything possible to end it.”

Clearly emotional, he added: “Natalie, you were an inspirational person. Having you in our lives was the greatest joy we will ever have.

“You would have been an amazing mother to baby Dean and we will love you forever and hope you can now rest easy.”

Declan also paid tribute to his mother and father and said: “Over the last three-and-a-half years, I don’t know how they have done it.

“They are the most amazing people. They have the biggest strength you could ever think of and how they have held this all together, they are amazing and we love you very much.”

Niall McNally also spoke and thanked the PSNI, the PPS and the prosecution barristers for “working so hard on the case” and Victim Support.

He also thanked Mr Justice Kinney for “presiding over a fair trial” and to the jury “for their verdict today.”

In addition, Declan praised the wider family and friends for their support, as well as the communities in Lurgan and beyond.

He said: “Without their support we would not got through this most difficult time in our lives.”
