A 33-year-old man sustained a cut to his throat during an early morning assault in Co Armagh.
It is understood that the incident happened outside licensed premises at William Street in Lurgan, shortly before 12.30am today (Sunday).
Chied Inspector David Nixon said the man sustained a laceration to his throat and the back of his head during the assault.
He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of a number of incidents, including grievous bodily harm with intent.
He remains in police custody at this time.
Police are appealing to anyone who was in the William Street area between 12.15am and 12.30am and who saw what happened to get in touch on the non-emergency number 101.
Speaking on the attack in Lurgan Carla Lockhart MLA said: “My thoughts are with the victim of this brutal attack in the early hours of the morning. It is a very alarming attack and one that I would utterly condemn.
“William Street is renowned for its night time economy and this has shocked the local people. I would appeal to all those who were in the vicinity who may have information to report it to the PSNI on 101.
“It is vital that information pertaining to the attack is reported so that they can face the full rigours of the law.”
