Police observed a rock and glass inside the property and the defendant was subsequently arrested

A man has been ordered to pay a fine of £300 for throwing a rock through the window of a “drinking buddy”.

The 46-year-old appeared at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, following a warrant being issued for his arrest.

Giedruis Vareikis, of Union Street in Lurgan, faced sentencing on count of criminal damage and appeared via videolink from police custody.

Prosecution outlined April 7, at 10.30pm, police received a report from the injured party that a male was attempting to enter his home in Lurgan.

Upon arrival, the injured party told officers that the defendant had thrown a rock through his window.

Police observed a rock and glass inside the property and Vareikis was subsequently arrested making no reply to caution.

Defence barrister Conor Lunny described the injured party as a “drinking buddy” of his client.

He stated that Vareikis appeared before the court with no record but conceded that he had not abided by conditions whilst on bail.

District Judge Bernie Kelly ordered that the defendant pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 10 weeks.
