A man has been charged after the discovery of two dead dogs in Lurgan.
The 47-year-old has been charged with abandoning an animal and caused unnecessary suffering to animals.
The man is due to appear before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 9.
As is usual procedure, the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The arrest and charges came after the discovery of the two dogs at a property in the town on Monday.
In the aftermath of the discovery, Upper Bann DUP MLA Jonny Buckley said what had transpired represented a “multi-agency failure” and raised “serious questions that must be answered”.
Campaign group Northern Ireland’s Voice for the Voiceless had earlier raised concerns, amid claims reports had been made to both the PSNI and Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s animal welfare department.
Posting on social media, it added: “Our hearts are broken with the abuse that goes on around us on a daily basis.”
Armagh I contacted both the PSNI and ABC Council this evening (Wednesday) to put to them the claims made.
Police responded by confirming that a man has been charged to court.
A response has not yet been forthcoming from council.
