Man arrested over Lurgan park knife incident released following questioning

Lord Lurgan Park police scene

A 59-year-old man, arrested by officers investigating a report of a man armed with a knife in Lord Lurgan Park on Thursday, August 1, has been released on bail to allow for further enquiries.

Speaking on Friday morning, Inspector Woods said: “We received a report at around 7pm that a man, armed with a knife, was threatening young people in the park.

“Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries, but this was a terrifying incident for the young victims.”

The incident was condemned by local Sinn Féin councillor Keith Haughian.

He commented: “I want to condemn the reported assault in Lord Lurgan Park this evening. There is absolutely no place for knives or any other dangerous weapons in our communities.

“I want to pay tribute to the youth workers and the young people who were on the park as the incident took place.“
