Man accused of setting fire to his own home to go before Crown Court later this year

Defendant was remanded in custody to appear again in October

A Lurgan man accused of setting fire to his own home will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.

Robert William Okroy, 35, of Portlec Place, appeared charged with arson being reckless to whether life was endangered at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

It was heard the alleged offence occurred on April 11 and referred to the defendant’s own home.

Speaking from the dock Okroy submitted to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Defence Counsel made no contrary submissions to this.

Prosecution stated: “Based on the papers before the court I find that there is a prima facie case to answer.”

The defendant was remanded in custody to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on October 3 for arraignment.
