Man accused of ‘conspiracy to murder’ bailed

A man charged with conspiracy to murder has been given bail.

Mindaugas Venclovas (37), of no fixed abode in Lurgan, on October 18 this year – according to the charge sheet – allegedly conspired with another person.

The accused appeared via video link from prison at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

An interpreter was present at court.

The case is connected with a co-accused – Ausra Baltramaitiene (39), from Mourne Road, Lurgan,

A previous court was told she was accused of attempting to murder a man after allegedly breaking into this Coalisland home and stabbing him while he slept.

She is charged with attempted murder, entering as a trespasser and inflicting grievous bodily harm, having a knife and a metal bar as weapons and threatening to kill.

At Friday’s Court, District Judge Michael Ranaghan said the court had “real concerns about the strength of evidence against” Venclovas and he admitted the defendant to bail to an address to be approved by police in the sum of £500 including no contact with the injured party or co-accused.

Venclovas has to surrender his passport, ID card or any document that permits travel out of Northern Ireland.

He has to sign three times a week at at police station; is not to possess or consume alcohol in public; there is a 10pm-7am curfew when he electronically tagged; and he is not to enter the area where the injured party lives.

The case was adjourned to January 9.
