Two Co Armagh McDonald’s restaurants could be set for major McGlow-Ups with plans submitted for the full refurbishment of the interior and exterior of the buildings.

The plans pertain to the McDonald’s fast food restaurant and drive-thrus on Edward Street, Lurgan and Meadow Lane, Portadown and were submitted to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council in the name of McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd with Planware Limited acting as the agent.

Proposals seek permission for refurbishment of the restaurant to include the redecoration, construction of extensions, formation of new access door, replacement glazing and new cladding, minor reconfiguration and refresh of patio seating and associated works to the sites.

Internally, the refurbishment would include new benches, chairs and tables and new booth seating. New low communal tables, low stools and tablets would also be provided, if approved.

Staff would also benefit from upgrades in the kitchens and staffing areas, the relocation of some equipment and installation of new equipment. A new crew room would also be created in Lurgan.

At the same site, customer toilets would be fully remodelled to include new doors, new floor and wall finishes, new cubicles and trough sinks, new hand dryers and toilet roll holders and new sanitary ware.

Externally, part of the existing glazing and stall riser are to be removed and all window frames are to be re-sprayed.

A section of damaged panelling is also earmarked for repair.

One section of patio furniture would be relocated to where the existing patio furniture is situated, close to disabled parking bays. Other items of outdoor furniture would also have their tabletops replaced.

A new ‘click & serve bay’ would also be created close to the car park entrance.

The Lurgan building’s last full refurbishment took place almost a decade ago in 2017. Back then, the premises benefitted from the reconfiguration of the drive-thru lane to accommodate side-by-side ordering with a new island for signage.

It also received a new “folded roof” concept, construction of two minor booth extensions and timber-effect Trespa cladding.

In 2020, the new digital ordering screens were introduced in-line with similar upgrades to all restaurants.

In Portadown, similar improvements can be expected both internally and externally.

Historic sub-floor issues in the kitchen are also expected to be rectified, if approved.

Proposals also seek to install a new high level window and make minor alterations to the patio with the relocation of buton barriers, patio seating, lamps and internal road sign.

The last major refurbishment of this premises was granted back in 2010.

The applications will be advertised in due course.
