‘Nothing untoward’ found in Lurgan train line security alert

Police say they investigated a report a suspicious object had been left on the railway line at Lake Street in Lurgan on Sunday morning.

But searches have revealed nothing untoward.

The train line had been closed but shortly before 10am police said it was expected to reopen shortly.

Earlier, a PSNI spokesperson confirmed the alert saying: “Police are investigating a suspicious object may have been left on the railway line at Lake Street in Lurgan.

“Train services have been halted as a precaution and members of the public are urged to avoid the area at present while police make enquiries into the report.”

Translink have tweeted: “Security Alert: Until further notice, a bus sub will run Lisburn to Portadown for local services (both directions). Expect delays.”

The latest alert came just a number of weeks after two alerts led to rioting in the town and had police on the streets for almost 36 hours.
