A young Lurgan man who died in a road traffic collision in Co Donegal has been remembered by his heartbroken family as a “gentle soul” and “the best son in the world”.
Ronan King, who was in his 20s, passed away at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on the R232 at Pettigo, on Sunday afternoon, August 2.
From Lurgan, Ronan was a big Glasgow Celtic and Armagh GAA fan and is being mourned deeply across the community.
His devastated mum Paula paid a simple and poignant tribute to her “wee son and best friend”, describing him as “the best son in the world”.
His brother Jamie said: “Rest in peace to my eldest brother. He was one of the most gentle souls in this world and was taken away from it far, far too soon. We all will miss you dearly and love you so, so much.”
Brother Callum added: “My big brother, I love you so, so much and I’m gonna miss you dearly for the rest of my life. Thank you for being here for me and the family. Rest in peace.”
Friends have also been sharing their shock and sorrow, with one saying: “Rest in peace Ronan. Our memories will be cherished and I will never forget you. Thank you so much for all our memories and laughs and everything you’ve done for me – I’ll never forget you.
“My heart is truly broken. We were meant to keep growing up beside each other. Rest in peace Ronan, I will miss you forever.”
Another wrote: “Heartbreaking news. It was an absolute pleasure knowing you, Ronan King. You will be missed deeply. Thank you for all the memories you have given us.”
Upper Bann Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd said: “The tragic death of Ronan has sent shockwaves throughout Lurgan and the wider community.
“My heartfelt sympathies are with Ronan’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time.
“No words can ease the pain of such a devastating loss, but I hope they can take some comfort from the support and compassion of the community as they come to terms with this tragedy.”
Ronan died at the scene of Sunday’s collision, which involved a car and a 4×4 vehicle and occurred at around 2.45pm.
A Garda spokesperson said: “The driver of the car, a male in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“A passenger in the car, a female in her 20s, was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, a male in his 60s, was also brought to hospital for assessment only.”
The road has since re-opened following a full technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses and information.
