County Armagh woman admits inciting man to have sex with her without his consent

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Co. Armagh woman has admitted inciting a man to have sex with her without his consent.

Tanya Lord was due to go on trial at Craigavon Crown Court this week accused of inciting sexual activity with a male but instead, defence KC Richard Weir asked for the 40-year-old to be re-arraigned.

Almost two years since she was initially charged Lord, from Derrylodge Manor in Lurgan, entered a guilty plea that on June 23 2020, she caused a man “to engage in sexual activity with you involving penetration of your vagina with his penis and that he did not consent to the sexual activity and you did not reasonably believe that he so consented.”

Thanking the jury panel for coming to court “especially on such a cold morning,” Judge Patrick Lynch KC said there had been “no inkling” of the change of plea until Lord’s 11th hour dock confession.

Remanding Lord back into custody, the judge adjourned passing sentence until February 10 by which time a pre-sentence probation report and victim impact statement will be before the court for consideration.
