Co. Armagh schoolgirl’s wonderfully creative version of Disney classic brought granny to tears

Cassie Doyle Lurgan

A Lurgan schoolgirl’s beautiful and wonderfully creative version of a Disney classic sums up the feelings of many of us during lockdown.

Most of us have spent the last number of weeks isolating and working from home, which has left us longing for contact – the experience like no other felt before.

And 17-year-old Cassie Doyle, who currently studying at Banbridge Academy, had a rather unique idea on how to sum up her feelings by altering the words of the Little Mermaid tune ‘Part of your World’ (watch below).

Speaking to Armagh I, Cassie explained she had initially recorded her rendition for her grandparents to help them deal with isolation but the video was subsequently shared in a family group chat and one proud relative – with permission – went on to share it on Facebook.

Said Cassie: “I think the song really just sums up how most people are feeling now, I can’t wait to get back to school, to see my friends and to go to the beach,” she said.

“The reaction that it has had on Facebook has been amazing, I am so so happy with it and I was even told that the video brought a tear to my granny’s eye.

“I am lucky because I have my two sisters at home with me, we have been keeping occupied and are always up to something in the evening.

“So, I was looking up the lyrics to the song which really lend to the current situation and decided to send it to my grandparents, who it has been tougher for.”

She added: “It also had the added benefit of my mum not realising how much schoolwork I had to do.”

The Lurgan schoolgirl has been involved with drama since the age of three and is part of the Pamela Cassells School of Performance.

“I have always loved drama,” she commented. “I would love to go on to work in that, but I know that is a dream and it would be very hard, but I also love geography.”

Cassie joked: “If there is a job that I could do both, that would be amazing.”

Cassie’s dad, Rory said: “Her lockdown lyrics gave us all a good laugh, it has had great reaction from friends and family even in New York and Australia.”

Well, this video is sure to put a smile on a lot of people’s faces and we may have a star on our hands.
