Co Armagh family’s heartbreak at loss of second son on Boxing Day

A Co Armagh family has been left reeling following the death of a second son on Boxing Day.

Darwin Cousins, who was in his 30s and from Lurgan, passed away suddenly on Thursday.

It’s the second tragic loss for parents Eric and Eleanor Cousins, who lost another son in 2001.

Gregg was killed while working on the M1, when a digger struck high voltage overhead electricity cables, the Belfast Telegraph have reported.

Upper Bann DUP MLA Carla Lockhart, who knew Mr Cousins, said her heart went out to the grieving family as they came to terms with the tragic loss.

“He was a lovely young man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his parents and his daughter, and the whole family circle,” she said.

SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly also sent her condolences.

“I simply do not know how any parents could cope with such pain and grief,” she said.

Mr Cousins was a father-of-one to his daughter Brittany.

A death notice read: “Loving father of Britany, dearly loved son of Eric and Eleanor and much loved brother of the late Gregg.

“Family and friends welcome at his home (35 Bowen’s Manor).”

Funeral arrangements have not been made public.
