A DUP councillor has condemned what he described as a “disgraceful” act of sectarian vandalism after graffiti was daubed on trees in Lurgan Park.
Councillor Peter Haire hit out at those responsible, saying there is “absolutely no place” for such behaviour.
He said: “Once again, we are seeing anti-social behaviour in Lurgan Park — this time in the form of sectarian graffiti painted on trees. I completely condemn this disgraceful act.
“Our public park is meant to be a shared space for everyone, and this vandalism is both offensive and deeply damaging to community relations.”
Councillor Haire has renewed his call for CCTV to be installed in the park, which he believes could act as a deterrent and help identify those responsible.
He added: “The individuals involved must be brought before the courts and face the appropriate consequences for their actions.
“I have already informed council staff and requested that the graffiti be removed as a matter of urgency.”
Lurgan Park is one of Northern Ireland’s largest urban parks and a popular destination for walkers, runners, and families.
This latest incident follows previous reports of anti-social behaviour in the area in recent months.
