Police have confirmed that the body of a woman has been discovered in the Princess Street area of Lurgan this afternoon (Saturday, February 7).

While formal identification has not yet taken place, police have confirmed that the family of missing woman Caitlin Green have been informed of the development.

The 24-year-old, who also went by the name Caity, had been the subject of an extensive missing person investigation after she was last seen leaving a friend’s home in the Derry Street/Lord Lurgan Park area at around 12.30pm on Saturday, January 31.

Over the past week, police carried out wide-ranging searches across Lurgan, with detectives reviewing CCTV footage and following up on numerous investigative leads and public tips.

As part of the appeal, officers had urged residents in several areas of the town to check sheds, garages and outbuildings on their private property.

Police have not released further details at this stage and enquiries are ongoing.

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has expressed his deep sadness at the discovery.

He said: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic discovery of a woman’s body in Lurgan today. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and all those who are grieving at this unimaginably difficult time.

“I know this news will be deeply distressing for the local community. I would respectfully ask that people avoid speculation and allow the PSNI the time and space they need to carry out a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances.”
