Concerns have been raised over the appearance of anti-PSNI posters in Lurgan.
The posters have appeared ahead of planned community engagement events in the town this week.
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, says the lack of applications from members of the nationalist community to join the PSNI “is solely a mindset of conditional acceptance by nationalists”.
The DUP representative added: “They speak of their support on occasions but are rarely found wanting when it comes to criticising perceived imbalance. The truth of the matter is that every spoken concern has been over-accepted.
“The sacrifices of the brave men and women of the RUC were hidden in police stations in acts of wanton betrayal. The RUC was disbanded at the behest of nationalists/republicans, with the ludicrous change of uniform and a new name. There is nothing that will be good enough for them to unconditionally support the police.
“Look at Sinn Féin in the Republic of Ireland, again its conditional support. They only want policing on their terms, which is two-tier.
“In these pictures, we see posters placed on railings at a community centre where the police will later give some crime prevention advice and address any issues in the local community with anti-social behaviour. There is no level that is low enough to undermine policing.
“We all have concerns on occasion about politicised policing, but the rule of law and order must be fair and must prevail.”
Alliance Upper Bann MLA Eóin Tennyson also condemned the material.
“These sinister posters are clearly intended to intimidate local residents who wish to engage positively with the PSNI, as well as officers themselves. They must be roundly condemned by all.
“The vast majority of people in Lurgan want to move forward towards a more shared and inclusive future. Those responsible for this campaign do not speak for them and seek only to drag our community back through fear and division.
“Alliance stands fully in support of the PSNI, its officers and staff, who place themselves at risk every day to protect everyone in our society. We will continue working to support them in their efforts to build a service which is diverse and representative of our entire community.”
