A number of syringes and needles were found discarded on a Lurgan street by a member of the public earlier today (Thursday).
Fortunately the items were found by an adult who was able to temporarily remove them from the street.
Sinn Féin councillor, Mary O’Dowd, said she was alarmed when she was told of the discovery.
“I was contacted by a concerned member of the public who came across the syringes and moved them out of harm’s way,” she said.
“I contacted the Council who quickly acted and safely disposed of the items.
“It’s not clear if the syringes and needles were being used for illicit drugs use but whatever the use they should never have been disposed of in the street. Children could have very easily picked them up not knowing the dangers they faced.
“I commend the member of the public who acted in the manner they did to protect others.”
