Major “craters” on a County Armagh road are still claiming their fair share of vehicular victims over five months after being logged.
One local resident reached out to Armagh I after repeated complaints appeared to go unnoticed.
The resident, who did not wish to be named, sent photographs of “one of many” potholes in the Killylea locality, in the area of Fellows Hall Road and Derryhaw Road.
He said: “Potholes on this road are worsening with a few of them absolute car wreckers.
“It’s disgraceful. We’ve been waiting nearly four months now.
“No one seems to be listening. I’ve brought this to the attention of a number of councillors but to no avail.”
It is now almost May and the defects were logged in the middle of last November.
The resident, in raising the issue at that time, said: “The state of the road is ridiculous for the large volume of traffic it carries.
“Numerous cars have busted tyres and rims in the potholes. Potholes only repaired last year are starting to reappear due to the sub-standard quality of the repairs being done.
“I hope this can be addressed promptly as a matter of urgency, as this pothole in particular is on a sweeping corner with people taking to the opposite side of the road to avoid it.”
Armagh I contacted the Department for Infrastructure to seek an update and it has indicated that it is aware of the issues and work is on the cards.
A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson said: “Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has allocated an investment of over £40m since December in road repairs that will help to tackle the impact severe weather conditions have had across our network and allow an urgent and direct focus on repairing surface defects causing the most concern.
“Inspections of the road network are continuing in so far as resources permit and any defects meeting the intervention level on the Derryhaw Road and Fellows Hall Road will be taken forward for repair.
“Given the backlog of work and limited resources available despite additional funding, it will be several weeks before repairs can be programmed here as we continue to work hard to target areas of greatest need.
“The public can report potholes and other damage to the road network via the NIDirect website at https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/report-pothole-or-other-surface-defect.”
