Vehicle deliberately set on fire in Darkley

Vehicle fire Darkley

A vehicle was set on fire outside a row of houses in Darkley on Monday night.

The incident occurred in the Moss Row area of the village.

One fire appliance from Keady Station attended the incident and crews left the scene by 12am.

Sinn Féin Councillor Bróna Haughey has condemned the incident.

“This was a reckless and dangerous act,” she said, before adding that it is believed that “flammable liquid was poured over the vehicle and intentionally set alight”.

“Thankfully, no one was injured, but this incident has caused understandable concern in the community.

Councillor Haughey also added that the police are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV footage from the area to come forward.

Those with information are asked to contact police and quote reference 01674 – 13/10/25.

“This kind of anti-social behaviour has no place in our community and will not be tolerated,” Councillor Haughey added.

“I will continue working with the police and all relevant agencies to support efforts to identify those responsible.

“Sinn Féin stands with the local community in rejecting this type of behaviour and will continue working to ensure safety and accountability for all.”

The incident comes less than a year after a very similar incident in the same area of the village when a car was burnt out.

However, there is no suggestion of a link between the incidents at this stage.
