Police – supported by military personnel – carry out search in Keady linked to IEDs

Police are carrying out a search – supported by military personnel – in Keady in relation to the discovery of a number of attempted improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Teams swooped on the property on the Tassagh Road from early this morning; an operation which has continued throughout the day.

Police say the operation is being led by An Garda Síochána.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “As part of the investigation into the discovery of a number of attempted improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the Northeast and Southwest of the country, a male (40s) was arrested on Sunday, July 6.

The male was arrested during an operation on Sunday evening involving National, Regional and local Garda units in County Monaghan.

He is currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the North Western Region.

An Garda Síochána continues to liaise with our colleagues in the PSNI in relation to this investigation.

As this is an ongoing operation, no further information is available at this time.

It’s understood detectives are also exploring a possible link to a hoax device discovered in Milford last week.
