Ongoing legal disputes must be plugged for leaky TMAC roof to be fixed

Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon has urged the ABC Council to urgently resolve ongoing legal disputes, so that the leaking roof of the TMAC Arts & Community Centre, in Keady, can be fixed.

Speaking at Monday’s (June 23) full meeting of the local authority, the SDLP representative for Armagh DEA stated: “The centre comes up on 10 years open in September, and I think it’s fair to say the place needs a bit of a a touch-up, a lick a paint, etc., inside, and I’d ask that if officers can come back with details on [what needs done], I think they’ve been doing it across all the other community facilities.

“Secondly, there’s been a long-running issue around a part of the roof that has been leaking. My understanding is, we’ve had reports through the committee previously around legal disputes back and forth with the contractor.

“There was a previous interim director who advised us that we’re about to go on site and get some works done.

“Would it be possible to get a report from Elizabeth [Reaney, director of Regulatory Services, Facilities & Assets], back after the summer as to where we are in relation to that, and the timeline involved in trying to get the issue resolved? Because it is a bit of a nuisance.

“For example, whenever children are booked in for the play facility in the TMAC, it can’t be used because of a leaking roof.”

The senior council officer told Cllr O’Hanlon: “There is indeed an ongoing legal matter with the roof, and we had hoped to have an earlier engagement and some good outcomes in that, but I’m happy to bring back a report in September.

“Officers anticipate to be in a more informed position, with some of the discussions around that. I will also pick up your request around internal painting through the Building Maintenance team.”
