Keady man with ‘lengthy record’ fined for urinating in police cell

A Keady man who spat and urinated in a cell after being arrested has been fined £300.

Court heard the 45-year-old had requested to use to the toilet but after being told he had to wait he claimed he could not.

John Guy, of Fairgreen Park, pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Craigavon Magistrates’ on Friday.

It was heard that January 5, at 1.55am, the defendant was arrested by police due to an unrelated matter.

At 11.25am, the next morning, it was noted that Guy had spat and urinated on his cell floor.

Prosecution told court there was no figure given for cleaning costs.

Defence counsel stated: “He was arrested on an unrelated matter when he was heavily intoxicated, the next morning he requested to use the toilet and was told he had to wait but he instructs that he couldn’t.

“This is a man with a lengthy record but he only has one previous criminal damage and that was back in 2013”.

Guy was ordered to pay a fine of £300, along with the offender’s levy of £15, within 12 weeks.
