A Keady man admitted to deliberately setting fire to a car and damaging two others

Ted Martin, 21, of Clay Road, had previously denied the offences but was re-arraigned at Newry Crown Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to arson and two counts of criminal damage.

While none of the facts were outlined in court the offences occurred on October 1, 2023 when Martin set fire to a Volkswagen Passat and damaged a Volkswagen Golf and and Volkswagen CC.

All three vehicles belonged to separate complainants.

Martin’s defence barrister, Conor Coulter, asked that pre-sentence reports be prepared for his client.

His Honour Judge Ramsey KC, speaking to Martin, remarked: “You pleaded guilty to these matters and you’re going to be visited by Probation, and it’s important that you give them as much information as you can about your circumstances and the circumstances of the offences, your background and the circumstances which you plead guilty, so I have all the information before me when I come to sentence you.”

Martin was released on continuing bail until his sentencing hearing on June 10.
