Keady man accused of setting fire to car and damaging two others set for Crown Court

He was released on bail in the meantime and ordered him not to make any contact with witnesses and to refrain from consuming alcohol

A Keady man accused of setting fire to a car and damaging two others is due before Crown Court next month.

Ted Martin, 20, of Clay Road, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Newry, on Tuesday charged with one count of arson and two of criminal damage.

The alleged offences occurred on October 1, 2023 whereby a Volkswagen Passat was destroyed by fire. A Volkswagen Golf and and Volkswagen CC were also damaged.

All three vehicles belonged to separate complainants.

Martin appeared in court for a preliminary enquiry (PE) – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Martin confirmed his name and date of birth and did not object to the holding of a PE.

The prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.

Martin will appear in Newry Crown Court on December 17 for arraignment, where he will indicate his plea in the case.

He was released on bail in the meantime where District Judge Anne Marshall ordered him not to make any contact with witnesses and to refrain from consuming alcohol.
