Keady band deliver food parcels to community and PPE after online fundraising appeal

A Co Armagh band have been doing their bit in the local community by distributing food parcels and essential PPE at this time of crisis.

The members of Drumderg Loyalist Flute Band in Keady raised £1,030 in a short space of time via a JustGiving page.

The money has made a huge difference to local people – both at the frontline working and those elderly, vulnerable and at risk.

Members found it a humbling experience as they delivered food parcels and PPE across Co Armagh.

Band member Paul Elliott said many were emotional and tearful at the thoughtfulness at these difficult times; he said they wanted to assure people the band had not forgotten them at this time of crisis.

Paul told Armagh I : “We were part of a marching band syndicate that provided 10,000 masks to the NHS In Northern Ireland.

“The remaining funds were used to provide food parcels to those isolated due to the coronavirus lockdown arrangements.

“We covered many homes throughout County Armagh and were overwhelmed with the response on the doorsteps – people were so genuinely pleased to see us and touched by our gesture.

“It was a chance for us to give something back to the community who have been so supportive of the band for many years. Some were emotional and in tears.

“We have had terrific feedback from all recipients with thank-you cards, texts and messages which makes our efforts all the more worthwhile.”

Drumderg would like to thank everyone who kindly donated to the JustGiving page and who, by doing so, made this all possible!
