Farmers ‘devastated’ after two dogs maul 40 sheep to death outside Keady

Sheep kill Tassagh

Two Co Armagh farmers have been left “devastated” after 40 sheep were mauled to death by dogs outside Keady on Sunday night.

The incident happened on farmland, in the Tassagh area, and is understood to have involved two dogs.

Police were called to the incident but have passed over the investigation to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

The wife of one of those the farmers affected contacted Armagh I to highlight the savage incident and warn others.

“It’s just devastating,” she said.

“The dog warden took one of the dogs away – it was chipped so hopefully we’ll get more information on its owner but unfortunately the other dog got away.

“Both the farmers have lost 20 sheep each and another six or seven have been injured.”

A Council spokesperson confirmed that a Dog Warden attended the scene when the incident was reported and immediately launched an investigation.

“Enquiries to identify the owner of the dogs are still ongoing at this stage,” the spokesperson said.
