Five people have been charged in connection with a burglary at a convenience store in Bessbrook.

A 17-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman and three men aged 22, 23 and 31 have been charged with burglary, attempted burglary, possession of criminal property, taking a motor vehicle without authority and theft.

The charges relate to incidents at Main Street, Bessbrook, Forkhill Road, Newry and Mowhan Road on Thursday 14 November.

Items including biscuits, power tools, sweets, cigars and registration plates were recovered from a house at First Avenue by police following the burglary in the Main Street area early on Thursday morning.

Officers were told the thieves fled the scene in a red car, and a short time later a patrol spotted a red Volkswagen Golf in the area which led them to the stolen items.

All five will appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court later.
